Are You Doing Crappy Pushups?


When one properly, the push-up is great for creating upper body strength and establishing the need for core control.

Here are some external cues you can use at home to clean up your pushups and improve your overall form 💪! Pushups can be tough to do, but with our tips, you can master them.

1. Use a dowel or broomstick to make sure your spine is neutral. No forward head posture and no low back arching. Tip: squeeze your abs and glutes to activate multiple muscles.

2. Use yoga blocks or toilet paper 🧻 to set up your arms and elbows.

REMINDER: arms should be 35-45 degrees from your body NOT flared out at 90 degrees.

WHY IS THIS?

This is the most optimal position for your shoulders and helps you hold the position properly. Having the elbows too far out isn’t ideal because of lack of shoulder stability 👎. Doing it this way not only makes it easier but also improves muscle strength, hitting all the key muscles throughout the exercise. Technique is key.
