A Great Exercise Program

Female trainer and male client standing on one foot

Function before fitness. Motor control before strength.

Minimize compensation. Prevent injuries.

It’s about time we start to wrap our heads around what a quality fitness program looks like. The problem is that too many of us have an image in our heads of what exercise should look like. We think it’s all about sweating, panting, exerting and exhausting. More, harder, more, harder! Just do it! 🥵

But exercise doesn’t need to look like a sexy commercial.

👆First and foremost, we all need to learn how to move better. This is what we all share in common. Quality movement absolutely needs to be the foundation of exercise.

If one part of the body isn’t functioning well, it affects the entire movement system (this is known as compensation). When we start loading an aberrant movement pattern, it only creates more dysfunction. If left unaddressed, it will surely lead to pain and possibly injury.

So where do we start? We must address the weakest link. For some, it’s hip or shoulder mobility. For others it’s lacking the ability to stand on one foot without falling over. Movement limitations must be addressed and improved before adding load and intensity.

A lot of people don’t want to have to figure this out on their own. At OakPW, it’s what we do. We love it and we’re here to help!

Always remember, motion is lotion. We encourage you to Move Well, Live Well™.
