Ground-Based Exercise
The human body thrives off of movement variety. It doesn’t have to be vigorous, structured exercise to be beneficial. Any movement is awesome.
At OakPW, we teach people ground-based movements as part of their overall exercise programs. We teach specific techniques and sequences using ANIMAL FLOW but we also coach ground movement with less structure. These types of movements in include rolling, crawling, lying, sitting, rocking and kneeling.
Ground-based movements can help with your overall movement capacity and efficiency. It develops mobility, stability and motor control of your joints— all of which are a prerequisite for confidence in your ability to exercise.
Slowly moving along the ground while focusing on the breath at a low-intensity is a treat for both the brain and body. The options for movement is infinite. Start with whatever feels good! Roll on the ground and see if it brings a smile to your face. Then start to challenge yourself with more complicated movements like getting up and down off the ground without using your hands for assistance.
Ground-based movement is for everyone, requires no equipment and doesn’t need much space. It’s simple, easily accessible and most importantly it’s safe!
Always remember, motion is lotion. We encourage you to Move Well, Live Well™.
